Learning (x)html and css to create my own classified ads website

i dreamed of creating my own classified ads website. but right now im not that skilled to do that.

that's why i decided to learn web programming. as a start i started reading HTML, XHTML & CSS For Dummies ,7th Edition.

Im also reading references from w3schools.com, and i think somewhat they are defining and discussing the subject similarly.

but then, i learned about the existence of w3fools.com. Upon reaching their site, and i read on their main page. I think the site is saying that w3schools.com has several conflicting information about the subject about XHTML and some other more.

w3fools.com, i think, is telling that w3schools.com is a terrible reference?

if that is so... what then is the best reference book and site to read from, so i can learn web programming.

gurus, please help on this one. please mention about authors of books and links to online learning tools and resources. if you have some pdf file to share with me, i'll be more than happy to accept that.

    thanks in advance.

This was the book that helped me a lot (CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions by Andy Budd). You should know some basics before starting with this book, however, I can recommend it.

best source for html? really no idea, there is probably no such clearly reference publication, but you should find everything you need on the net (forums etc...).

you'll be probably looking for php reference - php.net is what you need.

    thank you for the message.

i have no plan of learning server-side programming as of yet. but so long as i learned html/css, i'll start to learn php or ASP.NET.

i want to buy a book from, For Dummies, SitePoint and O'Reilly. Im undecided right now, i need advice on which to choose from those three.

Although books can be a great resource, I really don't think many of them are suitable. There are two good resources in my opinion.

    1) Google... There is an ample amount of bloggers, webmasters, and college graduates who post tutorials online. It's a great way to learn. Start by forming a small project. Then develop that project. You will have to use these tutorials to code your project. That's how successful programmers start.

    2) College Textbooks. You can find used college textbooks are crazy low prices on amazon. Remember that this is the same material that professional coders use.

    @Noble Genius

thank you for the input... the resources i wanted for now, are printed materials like text book. i want to memorize css codes and etc. and that makes so difficult i stare too long at my computer screen.

and i like printed materials as my learning resource, since i can read on them while in mobile or in transit during a trip or something.

out of the topic, but kindle is pdf reader, not a tablet. its much cheaper, and well worth its price.
    anyways, I like books.

you can't compare ipad with kindle. did you ever read something on it? its reader! no lcd/led/whatever but mineral display, easy to read, saving your eyes, and battery life around one month. its reader! not an ipad competitor
